a quiet addition to a post-war home that provides natural light and a functional layout

The existing property, a 1950’s post-war bungalow, suffered from a lack of open space due to its congested and dated interior layout. The homeowners sought to expand the home in two separate wings on either side; one containing a master bedroom and ensuite and the second housing a garage. The intent was to add these new components as minimal forms that created little visual distraction from the existing house. Simultaneously, large and purposeful openings were added to introduce vast amounts of natural, diffused light and cross-ventilation. Simple applications of matching brick simplify the exterior expression in a delicate composition, while new standing-seam metal roofing harmonize the new and existing components of the home.
